google’s author rank goes back to a patent filed 2005. the patent describes a method in which the contents of the the search results (SERP) are assigned to a specific authors. in addition, authors will be assessed based on their previous activities and designated a score that will be used to rank future content they publish on the web..
this score is calculated using many different factors. some examples are the number of followers the author has on google+ or how often their posts have been shared. ultimately, the goal with author rank is to bring a social component into a google search – a human factor is added to the pure google algorithm.

time sure does fly – even though it does feel a bit longer than three years ago that i started using wordpress.com (which makes me wonder how accurate the happy anniversary from wordpress.com notification really is). as i’ve self-hosted by site for years the the only reason i use or even have a wordpress.com account is to use the jetpack plugin, which by the way i highly recommend to anyone that hosts their wordpress site outside of wordpress.com.

in a nutshell: it’s great. even though i’ve only been using it since yesterday morning it’s totally worth it for the superior place search functionality powered by google alone.
based on my pro apple bias it seems like a lot of folks expected me to take a crap on the app, however i’m not going to do that (surprise, surprise). as i’ve always said, my only requirement to use something is that it is the best – highest quality, easiest to use, etc. and with the google maps app for the iphone that is clearly the case.
let’s make one thing clear: google maps is superior to apple maps in most ways (but not 100% on the iphone). i must however say that i am looking forward to apple stepping up in maps now that tim cook admitted the failed launch on the apple website and in a recent interview with brian williams he shared that apple “screwed up” (see below and excuse the obnoxious ad).
